Portal Pantura – Google has introduced a new change to its ‘G’ icon, which is a part of its visual identity. This move marks the end of the solid color usage that has been in place for a decade.
Instead, Google now applies a gradient technique to its four signature colors — blue, red, yellow, and green — creating a smoother transition and a more modern look.
This change appears to align with the new design applied to Gemini, Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) platform. The Gemini icon now also features a more striking gradient look, giving it a futuristic and dynamic feel.
Currently, the new ‘G’ icon has begun appearing in the iOS version of the Google Search app. For Android users, the gradient icon can be found in version 16.18 (beta) of the Google app.
However, the main Google logo, consisting of six letters, still uses solid colors and has not undergone any update.
According to observations, the new gradient implementation is only visible in the shortcut on the Google Search app. Meanwhile, other elements such as the microphone icon and Google Lens in the search bar still retain the old design with solid colors.
This suggests that Google is still in the testing phase and has not fully implemented the changes across all products and platforms.
The history of the ‘G’ icon change began in 2015 when Google first replaced the small blue ‘g’ with a fresher, four-color ‘G.’ Now, through this gradient update, Google seems to be reinforcing a sense of modernity and design flexibility.
There is no official statement yet on whether the gradient will be applied to all Google products or just specific apps.
Internet users are also encouraged to keep their apps updated to enjoy the new look.
Although it may seem like a minor change, this move reflects Google’s effort to continuously update its visual identity in line with global design trends.***
